Vertical ‘panorama’
Most photographers have taken a panorama photo by means of ‘stitching’ several images. They use Photoshop, specialised panorama software or even the built-in option in their iPhone. We normally take horizontal panoramas, but have you ever considered a vertical panorama? You can use this if you need more wide angle than you have available.
Recently I climbed to a vantage point to shoot a snow-capped mountain with a river in the foreground. I thought that my 70-300mm would do the job just fine, but once I got there I discovered that I really needed slightly less than 70mm, perhaps 60 mm. Rather than going back for another lens, I decided to shoot 4 horizontal images with 25% overlap and stitch those to a ‘vertical panorama’. As you can see, the result doesn’t really look like a panorama, just like an ordinary vertical photo.
