More and more cameras have the ability to set ‘micro adjustments’ to the autofocus of individual lenses. You can do so yourself manually by using a special calibration image, or you can buy a setup like LensAlign or SpyderLensCal. A new kid on the block is Reikan Focal, which offers a software package that does all the work for you, completely automatic! The software is still being developed, and right now it only supports two Canon cameras that I do not own, so I can’t test it yet. It does sound very interesting though.
