I recently bought a Samyang 12mm f/2.8 Fish Eye lens, because it got good reviews and costs relatively little. The optical quality is indeed surprisingly good, but the question is of course how to correct those curved lines. I’m going to use this lens for landscape pictures, and curved trees may look nice once or twice, but most of the time you don’t want that. I’ve seen authors who suggest to use the ‘Transform – Warp’ function in Photoshop, and there is a Photoshop plugin called Fish-Eye Hemi, but I found that Photoshops ‘Adaptive Wide Angle’ filter gives me the best results. It’s strange that nobody seems to have noticed this filter, because it is especially designed to do this kind of ‘defishing’. Here is an example of the original photo and the result after using ‘Adaptive Wide Angle’ to only correct the vertical lines.
