I just returned from a trip to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, that’s why this site wasn’t updated for a few weeks. Most people would go to Africa to photograph the ‘big five’, but some of the smaller animals are actually a much greater challenge. Ground squirrels are notoriously difficult to photograph. They quickly hide behind the tree as soon as they see you. That’s why I was particularly happy with a series of photos a could take of a mother squirrel with two young, who weren’t afraid of me at all (although these shots were taken with a 1300mm lens effectively). Here’s one of those shots.
