Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 introduces a new option in CameraRAW: resizing images via the ‘Save as…’ button. If you choose ‘Save as…’ to save an image directly from CameraRAW, you get a new ‘Resize’ option at the bottom of the dialog. Most of it will probably speak for itself, but you may wonder what the difference is between ‘Width & Height’ and ‘Dimensions’. The difference is as follows: ‘Width & Height’ does exactly what it suggests. If you specify the width and height of the image, Photoshop will resize the image so it fits into those dimensions. It means that Photoshop will not look at the orientation of the image. If you chose 1200 x 800 pixels for example, and your image happens to be in portrait orientation, Photoshop will still resize it to fit those values, so the end result will be an image that is 800 pixels high (even though that is the longest side). ‘Dimensions’ does look at the orientation too, so if you specify 1200 x 800 pixels here, the longest side of the image will fit into the 1200 pixels limitation, no matter if it’s in portrait or landscape orientation.
