A start-up company called Lytro claims that it will introduce the first consumer ‘Light Field’ camera during this year. A Light Field camera is a camera that doesn’t need focussing, because that can be done after the fact. It’s also ideal for 3D-photography, at least in theory. What the camera will look like and what it will cost is still unclear, but if it really works the way it is advertised at an affordable price, this could be a break through as important as the development of digital photography itself.
