Photoshop CS5 finally has a simple method of straightening an image and crop away the slanted sides. Select the Ruler tool, draw a line over something that needs to be horizontal or vertical (such as a visible horizon) and press the ‘Straighten’ button. The image will be rotated and cropped, but sometimes the cropping can be a little different from the way you would have done it if you had done it manually. Because the Straighten button activates a hidden script, you will see the different steps of that script appear in the History panel. That means you can simply go back one step in history and then manually crop the image if you are not satisfied with the way Photoshop has done it.
