At first sight, the cover of the latest PiX Magazine (South Africa) is nothing special. A nice portrait photograph, as can be seen on many magazine covers. But appearances deceive. The photo was taken with a Nokia N8 cellphone rather than with an expensive DSLR! PiX Magazine is not the first one to use cellphone pictures on the cover; we did the same a few years ago with the cover of ‘Fotografie’ magazine, but that was a cover with a mosaic of images. The message behind the PiX cover is not only that the cameras in cellphones are getting better and better, but also that a good photograph is taken by a good photographer, rather than a good camera. About 99% of all Nokia N8 owners would never be able to take this shot. They lack the photographic qualities for it. A large portion of DSLR owners wouldn’t be able either…
